Along Uzbekistan's international highways, 70 roadside infrastructure facilities will be established
Weighing stations for trucks will be installed to counter the rapid deterioration of road surfaces. As Spot previously reported, on October 16, Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a presentation on road infrastructure and priority goals. The president directed an acceleration in the construction of toll roads in Uzbekistan. In an interview with the TV channel O’zbekiston 24, Akmaljon Ortikov, the Director of the Agency for State Assets Management, shared that over 500 master plans for the construction of service stations and gas stations along national and international highways were put up for auction. Of these, auctions have been held for 200 projects, and work has commenced accordingly. “As part of the report on completed work, plans for creating around 70 new roadside infrastructure points based on standard projects along international roads were discussed. We will begin implementing them soon,” the head of the Agency announced. According to him, the Agency, in collaboration with the Committee on Highways and local authorities, will “begin the project as soon as possible,” including a 240 km stretch from Kungrad to Beineu, which is expected to be completed “in the coming days.” The Chairman of the Committee on Highways, Jamshid Tursunov, mentioned the president’s directive to “instill a culture of road use among citizens.” Although the road infrastructure is being built to international standards, Tursunov noted that roads wear out faster due to heavy trucks. In response, special weighing stations are to be installed, and relevant agencies are to conduct initiatives to foster a culture of responsible road use. Additionally, Tursunov promised that road signs would be installed along highways, conveniences for pedestrians and cyclists would be developed, and particular attention would be given to landscaping.
