From July 1, 2025, Slovakia Will Introduce New Toll System for Trucks
Slovakia is introducing a new road toll system for trucks starting July 1, 2025, in accordance with the updated EU Eurovignette Directive. The new system will consist of three components: a charge for infrastructure use, a CO₂ emissions charge, and a pollution charge (for harmful emissions such as nitrogen oxides and particulates). The new structure will apply to vehicles weighing from 3.5 tons and above. For vehicles over 12 tons, the number of axles will also be taken into account. The toll amount will depend on the vehicle's emission class and emission levels, but not on the number of axles (for vehicles under 12 tons). All vehicles will initially be classified in the first (most polluting) CO₂ emissions class. Vehicles registered before July 1, 2019, and M2/M3 category buses cannot be reclassified. For all others, documentation can be submitted for reclassification starting July 1, 2025. Toll roads will include motorways, Class I roads, and certain Class II–III roads. These changes are in line with the EU’s environmental and sustainability policies.
