President of Turkmenistan Lays Flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier
President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, during his visit to Moscow on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, took part in a flower-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Following the Victory Day parade, in keeping with longstanding tradition, heads of state who had arrived in Moscow for the celebration proceeded to the Alexander Garden by the Kremlin Wall, where they participated in the solemn ceremony. Accompanied by mournful music, the high-ranking guests walked toward the memorial complex, preceded by soldiers carrying a wreath. Paying tribute to the heroes who gave their lives defending peace and the freedom of all humankind in the battle against fascism during the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov laid flowers at the Eternal Flame. Units of the Russian Armed Forces and the Honor Guard then marched past the memorial in ceremonial formation. Afterward, the delegation heads posed for a group photo, TDH reports. As is known, Berdymukhamed Annayev — the great-grandfather of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov — volunteered for the front. After returning from the war due to a serious injury, he resumed his calling as an educator. For his bravery, he was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on March 2, 1949. In June 2018, by decree of the President of the Russian Federation, Berdymukhamed Annayev was posthumously awarded the Medal "For Courage," one of Russia’s highest state honors.
