Turkmenistan to strengthen shipbuilding facilities
The Turkmen government recently discussed the development prospects of the "Balkan" shipbuilding and repair plant. The General Director of the Transport and Communications Agency, M. Chakiyev, presented a report on the plant's current status and modernization plans. According to the agency head, the plant has already implemented modern technologies and automated production management systems. Qualified local specialists have been trained to work with the new equipment. However, comprehensive modernization of the plant’s facilities is required to further accelerate dry cargo ship construction. Commenting on the proposed development plans, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov highlighted the strategic importance of the shipbuilding industry for the country’s economy. According to the president, expanding domestic dry cargo production will increase cargo turnover at the Turkmenbashi International Seaport and strengthen the nation’s position in maritime transport. Approving the "Balkan" plant modernization plan, the president instructed the Transport and Communications Agency to begin its implementation. According to TDH, it is expected that the plant’s technical re-equipment will enhance production capacity and improve the quality of its output.
