Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Discusses Prospects for Expanding Cooperation with Petronas
The National Leader of the Turkmen People and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, held a meeting with the leadership of the Malaysian oil and gas company Petronas, during which the parties discussed prospects for expanding long-term cooperation, TDH reports. The meeting was attended by Petronas CEO Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik, Executive Vice President Mohd Jukris Abdul Wahab, and Vice President for International Upstream Assets Mohd Redhani Abdul Rahman. During the conversation, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that over more than 30 years of bilateral relations between Turkmenistan and Malaysia, a solid legal and contractual framework has been established for cooperation based on mutual respect, equality, and mutual benefit. The Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty emphasized that Turkmenistan regards Petronas not only as an investor but also as a strategic partner with whom the country maintains long-term, mutually beneficial ties. According to Berdimuhamedov, cooperation with the company includes the implementation of current projects as well as the launch of new major initiatives in the industrial sector within the framework of Turkmenistan’s socio-economic development programs. Special attention during the meeting was given to the construction of a second plant for producing gasoline from natural gas. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed readiness to consider specific proposals from the Malaysian company for the implementation of joint projects. The importance of cooperation in the field of education was also highlighted. More than 200 Turkmen students have studied at Petronas University of Technology. The Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty proposed intensifying efforts to organize short- and long-term training courses for Turkmen specialists.
